Louisville's quest to fill the void left by Rick Pitino's firing could be nearing its completion, as school officials are reportedly set to meet with Xavier head coach Chris Mack this weekend, a source told Jeff Greer of the Louisville Courier Journal.

Mack confirmed the meeting to The Cincinnati Enquirer on Thursday.

Pitino and athletic director Tom Jurich were relieved of their duties in September in the wake of the FBI's investigation into college basketball recruiting violations.

Mack has been commanding the Musketeers' bench since taking over in 2009. He registered a overall record of 215-97, and missed out on the NCAA tournament only once, in 2013.

Xavier's run in the Big Dance this year was unceremoniously cut short by a Round of 32 loss to Florida State.

Mack signed a contract extension with Xavier in September that runs until the end of the 2023 season.
