It appears Mike Hopkins won't be in the running for the Pitt job after all, as the Washington coach issued a statement denying interest after rumors mentioned him as a candidate.

"Don't believe what you read," Hopkins told Percy Allen of the Seattle Times on Thursday. "Three months ago I was (reportedly) involved with three different jobs. At the end of the day, me and my family are exceptionally happy here."

The Pitt job has been open since the school fired Kevin Stallings following a dismal 8-24 season. The school was in the running for Danny Hurley, but the former Rhode Island coach opted for the UConn job instead.

Hopkins made his name on the east coast, spending 22 years on the Syracuse staff before taking the Washington job prior to last season. In his first campaign with the Huskies, Hopkins led the team to a 21-13 record and claimed Pac-12 Coach of the Year.

"I love it here," he said. "Looking forward to building on what we did this year. I think we can make another major step forward. It's simple."
