Michael Jordan's birthday: Relive his championship shot at UNC

Robert Deutsch / USA TODAY Sports

Michael Jordan is celebrating his 54th birthday Friday, so here's a flashback to the GOAT hitting the shot as a freshman that won North Carolina the 1982 national championship.

That's how the season ended, but here's how it started: Jordan made his collegiate debut and registered his first points in a game against Kansas, and at that point was known as "Mike" Jordan.

While we're on the topic, here's what else you might be interested to know about MJ's college days:

  • Jordan actually dreamed of playing at UCLA, but the Bruins never recruited him. His second choice was Virginia, but the Cavaliers sent him admission forms instead of someone to watch him play at Laney High School.
  • Jordan's career high in points was 39, and came against Georgia Tech during his sophomore year.
  • His highest-scoring performance against Duke came that same season, when he put up 32 on the Blue Devils.

Happy birthday, Mike!
