Report: Nike unlikely to extend Kyrie's signature shoe deal

Kyrie Irving's signature sneaker series with Nike is reportedly nearing its end.

Nike is unlikely to extend its signature shoe deal with the Brooklyn Nets star beyond the 2022-23 season due to "uncertainties surrounding his NBA future," according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne.

Sources told Wojnarowski and Shelburne that Irving's final signature shoe is set to debut in the fall, but due to his popularity, Nike could continue to release retro Kyrie sneakers in the future.

A spokesperson for Nike didn't confirm nor deny the report to Wojnarowski and Shelburne, saying, "We don't comment on contracts or rumors or speculation. Kyrie remains a Nike athlete."

Irving signed with Nike in 2011 and had his first signature shoe released by the company in 2014.

In July, Irving slammed the design of the Nike Kyrie 8 after images of the shoe leaked on social media, calling it "trash" and saying he had "nothing to do with the design or marketing." In a follow-up statement, he said he was working with Nike to "get it right."

Irving played in only 29 of the Nets' 82 regular-season games this season due to New York's COVID-19 vaccination mandates. He holds a player option for the 2022-23 season.
