Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic is facing an undetermined spell on the bench after sustaining an ankle injury late in Monday's win against the Denver Nuggets, sources told ESPN's Tim MacMahon.

The Mavericks are hopeful he won't miss much time as the injury is "not too serious," a source told MacMahon.

Doncic underwent tests on both his ankle and knee, which showed no damage, reports The Athletic's Shams Charania.

The 22-year-old left the contest against Denver with 44 seconds remaining after Nuggets guard Austin Rivers inadvertently fell on the back of his leg. The Slovenian guard was visibly in discomfort but limped to the locker room under his own power.

Dallas expects Doncic to miss Wednesday's game against the Suns - the first of two consecutive matchups in Phoenix - but he did travel with the team for its upcoming four-game road trip, NBA correspondent Marc Stein reports.

The two-time All-Star is registering 24.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 7.9 assists, and 1.3 steals per game this season through 13 contests.
