The last time an Oklahoma City Thunder player won the Sixth Man of the Year award was James Harden back in 2011-12. Point guard Dennis Schroder could be next.

The 26-year-old reserve currently heads a pack of nine betting candidates for the prodigious award, though his lead his far from safe. Will he clinch it during the NBA's restart, or get passed up?

Let's take a closer look at the odds board and see where there's value.

Odds to win Sixth Man of the Year

Player Odds
Dennis Schroder -190
Montrezl Harrell +210
Lou Williams +420
Derrick Rose +3300
Davis Bertans +10000
Goran Dragic +10000
Jordan Clarkson +10000
Marcus Smart +10000
Kyle Kuzma +10000

The favorites

Schroder's the odds-on favorite at -190. It's not much of a surprise, seeing as he's leading this group in points per game (19). Schroder also currently owns career highs in offensive rating (108), eFG% (.532), and offensive win shares (1.9).

Clippers big man Montrezl Harrell (+210) is Schroder's biggest threat. He's averaging 18.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game while spearheading the league's highest-scoring bench. That stat line, coupled with him playing on a contender, could potentially give the 26-year-old a boost.

Fade Lou Williams

Williams has become synonymous with Sixth Man of the Year, winning the award three times over the last five years. However, he might not even be the best Clipper in the field.

While Williams has been marginally better in both rebounds and assists this season, his scoring is down from 20 points per game in 2018-19 to 18.7.

The veteran guard has contributed plenty this season, but he's missing the breakout element. There should also be a bit of voter fatigue here.

Best bet - Harrell (+210)

Considering Schroder and Harrell play two entirely different positions, it wouldn't be fair to evaluate them based on traditional stats. Schroder has an edge in categories like assists and steals, while Harrell is better in blocks and rebounds.

However, if we take a handful of advanced stats, Harrell doesn't look like the second-best player in the field.

Category Schroder Harrell Edge
PPG 19.0 18.6 Schroder
eFG% .532 .580 Harrell
OFF Rating 108 119 Harrell
DEF Rating 112 107 Harrell
VORP 1.0 2.2 Harrell
Win Shares 3.5 7.0 Harrell

It's obviously a small sample with hand-picked categories - plus, the voters have their own methods of choosing - but Harrell passes the test on paper.

He deserves a look at +210.
