Silver says he'll go in, out of bubble

Despite strict regulations surrounding the NBA's restart bubble in Florida, commissioner Adam Silver says he will be free to come and go from it.

"We have an arrangement there - I'll just call it a back door into the campus, where you can almost think of it as different tiers of protection, "Silver told Sean Gregory on a "TIME 100 Talks" webcast Tuesday. "People immediately around the players, certainly anyone who is going to be playing, who is going to be on the court with them, whether that be a referee, a coach or a trainer, anyone who needs to come, in essence, within 10 feet of them, will be following a certain protocol."

Silver also alluded to the fact that not all employees inside the Walt Disney World Resort property will be subject to the same restrictions.

"That's the same for some of the Disney employees as well who won't be living on campus," the commissioner said. "I will be down there at the beginning, but I'm going to come and go, and I think that my time in terms of running the league, ultimately, is best spent not living down on that campus for the entire time."

According to the details of the NBA's plan, players and other team personnel will be allowed to leave the bubble if they wish but must quarantine for 10 days upon their return and register two negative COVID-19 tests.

NBA teams are scheduled to begin arriving at the campus a week from Tuesday.
