Anthony Davis: 'I felt like I overstepped my boundaries' with pitch to Kawhi

Although the Los Angeles Lakers were unable to lure Kawhi Leonard, Anthony Davis appreciated the opportunity to play recruiter on behalf of his new team.

However, with Leonard ultimately joining the Los Angeles Clippers, the 26-year-old Davis was left wondering if he laid it on too thick during his pitch.

"It was fun just to go through it, for me, with a player like Kawhi, trying to recruit him to come here. It was fun," Davis said, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin. "We had one conversation, and I think he came out with a statement, or his uncle or something ... somebody said he don't really like all the recruitment and all that stuff, so I felt like I overstepped my boundaries."

Having spent his first seven NBA seasons with the small-market New Orleans Pelicans, Davis was rarely in a position to recruit elite free agents to join him.

In any case, with the 2019-20 NBA season tipping off with a clash between the Lakers and Clippers on Tuesday, Davis doesn't appear to harbor any ill will toward Leonard for snubbing the purple and gold for the crosstown rival.

"He can do whatever he wants, obviously," Davis added. "We thought that we had a chance, but he made a decision and we're going to face him tonight. He's a hell of a player, they've got a great team over there, so it should be fun."
