Danny Green doubts Raptors would accept Trump's White House invite

President Donald Trump has yet to formally invite the NBA champion Toronto Raptors to the White House after saying Thursday he would "think about" the proposition.

Regardless of Trump's decision, Raptors guard Danny Green believes the team's choice is already made.

"I just don't think that we accept, to put it politely," he said on Yahoo Sports' "Inside the Green Room" podcast.

Green continued: "I try to respect everybody in every field that they do regardless of how crazy things are. But he makes it really hard. He makes it very, very tough to respect how he goes about things and does things. But to put it politely, I think it's a hard no. ...

"I'm sure he's going to take his invite back if we do decide to say no. He's going to be like, 'Well, I didn't invite them anyway.' That's fine."

No NBA champion side has visited the White House since Trump officially took office in 2017. After winning a second consecutive title in 2018, the Golden State Warriors, whose invite was infamously revoked by Trump the year prior, instead chose to meet former President Barack Obama during a visit to Washington, D.C., this January.

Green, is, however, excited to eventually visit Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario.

"I'm looking forward to it," he said. "I've never been to - I don't know what that's even like. I don't know what the White House of Canada is or looks like. ... There's different stuff that I'm looking forward to checking out and just to see how (Trudeau) operates his atmosphere of work.

"His kid's a big fan. His son says I'm his favorite. I don't know if that's true or not but he said it in front of the team in one of our practices."

Trudeau attended the Raptors' championship parade Monday in Toronto and delivered a speech to fans outside city hall. Though no date has been formalized, head coach Nick Nurse confirmed earlier this week that a meeting in Canada's capital is being planned.
