Anthony Davis intends to sign a new deal to remain with the Los Angeles Lakers once he becomes eligible for free agency in 2020, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The report comes shortly after Wojnarowski broke the news that Davis would be dealt to Los Angeles for Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, Brandon Ingram, and three first-round draft picks.

Davis requested a trade from the New Orleans Pelicans in January, with reports pinning the Lakers as one his preferred destinations. At the time, his agent, Rich Paul, was rumored to be informing other interested teams that Davis would not re-sign with them if they traded for him and was set on going to Los Angeles as a free agent.

Paul corroborated those reports publicly this week, telling the Celtics to view the forward as a one-year rental if they struck a deal with the Pelicans. The Celtics' reported refusal to include Jayson Tatum in a trade apparently eliminated them from the Davis sweepstakes.

The 26-year-old Davis was also said to be open to joining the New York Knicks, though it's unclear how close the Knicks came to trading for the forward; some within the franchise reportedly cited the 2011 deal for Carmelo Anthony and his ensuing stint at Madison Square Garden to caution against dealing significant assets for Davis.
