Klay calls out Warriors fans for lack of energy in loss to Suns

On a night where his Golden State Warriors fell for the first time in their past 19 meetings with the Phoenix Suns, sharpshooter Klay Thompson wishes the fans at Oracle Arena would have been a tad more lively to spur the reigning champions on.

"I expect our crowd to be a little more into it too," Thompson said following Golden State's 115-111 loss, according to 95.7 The Game. "I know it's not the playoffs, but it is our last go-around at Oracle. At least you can stand up or something if we make a good play. Especially at the beginning, we need that energy. Especially this time of year, it's hard to conjure up energy every single night because you're looking forward to the playoffs and that run. So we expect our fans to kind of bring that from the jump.

"It's like us, though. You can't bring it every night, but still. It helps. It doesn't matter if we're playing the Suns or the (Milwaukee) Bucks (or) whoever it is. We need that energy from them because we feed off that."

Thompson scored a team-high 28 points for Golden State but converted just 4-of-15 from 3-point range after going 9-of-11 from deep against the Denver Nuggets on Friday. While critical of the fans' low energy, the five-time All-Star admits the team was also lacking in that department.

"It's a long season and we've been playing a lot of basketball for five years now, so you're not going to be perfect for 82 games," Thompson said when asked why Golden State has had so many hot and cold stretches this year.

The Warriors are 4-6 over their last 10 outings and currently sit 1 1/2 games ahead of the Nuggets for the top seed in the Western Conference at 45-21. Golden State will next take on the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center on Wednesday.
