Dirk Nowitzki officially re-signed with the Dallas Mavericks on Monday, the team announced.
The move was widely expected and multiple reports put the terms at one year and $5 million. If he plays out the contract, Nowitzki will pass Kobe Bryant for the longest unbroken tenure with one NBA franchise.
Nowitzki enters next season as the league's sixth all-time leading scorer, just 149 points ahead of LeBron James. The 40-year-old rejoins a new-look Dallas roster that includes center DeAndre Jordan and No. 3 draft pick Luka Doncic.
The Mavs haven't made the playoffs since 2015-16.
