Durant: I didn't mean to offend anyone with 'don't watch' comments

Public figures catch flak for many things in a 24-hour news cycle, and Kevin Durant took some heat over the weekend for an honest assessment of the lack of tight games in this spring's NBA Playoffs.

"If you don't like it, don't watch it," the Golden State Warriors superstar said Sunday. On Monday, he clarified those remarks.

"I mean, life can be simple, man," Durant told ESPN's Chris Haynes. "If you don't like the way the game is going, just turn it off. If you're enjoying it, just keep it on. Life is simple. I didn't mean it to disrespect anybody, but if you felt disrespected, I'm sorry. But, if you don't enjoy the game, turn it off, turn something else on. If you do, enjoy the rest of it, man."

The gist of Durant's original comments came from the Warriors' - and the Cleveland Cavaliers' - dominance over their competition this spring. The Cavs lost their first postseason game in 14 tries dating back to last year on Sunday, while the Warriors can break the NBA record Monday for the best-ever start to a postseason with a 12th straight win - and complete a sweep of the San Antonio Spurs.

If any of the criticism of Durant's comments was based on the notion that the two superpower teams are making TV viewers tune out, the numbers don't appear to support that idea. ESPN/ABC's ratings of the playoffs were up eight percent over last season as of last week, according to Sports Illustrated's Richard Deitsch.
