Hill hoping for Jon Jones superfight after multiple title defenses

Jamahal Hill is staying in his own lane for now, but eventually, the newly crowned UFC light heavyweight champion wants to move up in weight to face one of the greatest to ever do it.

Less than two weeks removed from his dominant title win over Glover Teixeira at UFC 283, Hill said he hopes to one day take on Jon Jones as a heavyweight.

"It's never stopped crossing my mind," Hill told Sportskeeda's James Lynch of a potential superfight with Jones. "1,000%. I still got some building to do. I still have defenses that I have to make and things like that. But is that a challenge I want? Yes, it is."

With 14 professional bouts under his belt, Hill is relatively inexperienced for a UFC titleholder. He received a surprise opportunity to fight for the vacant championship after Jiri Prochazka relinquished the title due to an injury, and a vacant title bout between Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev was ruled a draw in December.

Of course, for Jones-Hill to be a true superfight, Jones would have to become heavyweight champion first. The former longtime light heavyweight champ has a chance to do so at UFC 285 in March when he faces Ciryl Gane for the vacant title.

Hill, who holds a 6-1 (1 NC) record in the UFC, has also expressed interest in another champion-versus-champion bout against middleweight titleholder Alex Pereira.

But in his first title defense, "Sweet Dreams" said last week he wants to face Prochazka. However, it remains unclear when Prochazka will heal from the severe shoulder injury he suffered in late November. Ankalaev, whom many thought did enough to beat Blachowicz on the scorecards last month, could be another option.
