UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has closed the door on a superfight with Georges St-Pierre.
"When you say Georges St-Pierre, that name really motivates me. GSP really makes me excited ... but it's all over, brother," Khabib said in an interview with MMA fighter Magomed Ismailov, according to MMA Fighting's Jed Meshew.
"He's 40 years old. Let's just leave it. For sure we like him as a human being. He is the legend. He is the decent representation of mixed martial arts. Let it be like this, there's GSP and Khabib."
Ahead of his title defense against Justin Gaethje in October, Nurmagomedov said St-Pierre was the only opponent that would excite him after Gaethje.
Nurmagomedov, 32, announced his retirement after beating Gaethje at UFC 254, but fans have speculated that he would be willing to come back to face St-Pierre, a former two-division champion and one of the greatest fighters ever.
UFC president Dana White has pushed for Nurmagomedov to return to the Octagon for one more fight, but the champion has remained adamant about his decision.
