Daniel Cormier wants Stipe Miocic to do what's right and defend the UFC heavyweight title against him.

"Stipe and I are gonna fight next. That's exactly what's supposed to happen. It's what's gonna happen," Cormier said Saturday night, according to ESPN. "I know they're saying they want something new - well, hell, I wanted something new after I beat him, and I gave him a rematch. So it's only right to do the right thing.

"You're honorable, right, Stipe? You're a fireman, you save lives, you do the right thing all the time, right? Do the right thing and give me my rematch."

The UFC is interested in booking a trilogy fight for Miocic and Cormier, who both hold wins over each other.

Miocic is still recovering from an eye injury, which had appeared to be the only thing preventing a fight with Cormier from being finalized. But the champion's agent, Jim Walter, indicated earlier this week that Miocic may want to fight someone other than Cormier in his first title defense.

"After his health is cleared, we hope to have Stipe back in competition this year in a fight that makes sense and against an opponent that Stipe has not beaten before," Walter told ESPN's Marc Raimondi.

Miocic said Wednesday he's feeling "much better," though there's still has no timetable for his return. He recaptured the belt with a fourth-round TKO of Cormier this past August. Cormier beat Miocic via first-round knockout in July 2018 to become a two-division champion.
