Edwards tops Dos Anjos via unanimous decision at UFC San Antonio
Leon Edwards cemented his place among the UFC's welterweight contenders Saturday night at UFC San Antonio.
Ranked 12th in the division entering the evening's main event, Edwards outclassed No. 4-ranked fighter and former lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos over five rounds for a unanimous decision victory, extending his winning streak to eight in the process.
Following his victory, Edwards (18-3) called for Jorge Masvidal, with whom he had a backstage run-in after UFC London in March; the two exchanged words before exchanging punches, one of which left Edwards bloody.
Should he fail to land a bout with perhaps the hottest name in the division, Edwards said he'd also accept a rematch with current champion Kamaru Usman, the last fighter to hand him a defeat. Usman took a decision victory over Edwards back in 2015.
Dos Anjos (29-12) has now lost three of his last four fights, including defeats to Colby Covington and Usman. He topped Kevin Lee via arm-triangle choke in May.
