Rockhold out of UFC 230 fight with Weidman due to injury

Stewart Allen / USA TODAY Sports

Luke Rockhold withdrew from his UFC 230 fight against Chris Weidman on Friday due to multiple injuries, according to ESPN's Ariel Helwani and Brett Okamoto.

Rockhold's injuries include an infection in his surgically repaired left shin and a recently-suffered broken nose.

The middleweight bout was set to serve as the co-main event, so the UFC will again be forced to try to rescue the card after already pulling together a heavyweight title fight between two-belt champion Daniel Cormier and Derrick Lewis on short notice for the main event.

Rockhold will miss out on the chance to get back to winning ways after losing his 185-pound title shot against Yoel Romero in February.

Weidman and Rockhold previously fought for the middleweight title in 2015 at UFC 194. Rockhold became the new champion via TKO.

Weidman will remain on the card and fight Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza. Souza had been slated to fight David Branch, who now needs a new opponent.
