Curtis Blaydes continued his climb up the UFC heavyweight ranks with a dominating performance against veteran contender Alistair Overeem on Saturday in Chicago, capping two rounds of success with a brutal TKO via elbows on the ground in the third.

While Overeem (43-17) has been knocked out in two straight, Blaydes (10-1) has now won his last four fights and called for his shot at the heavyweight strap after his latest victory.

"I'm next in line for the belt. It's my turn," Blaydes said in his post-win interview.

Little action happened in the opening round of the bout, but Blaydes clearly took the first five minutes, landing a takedown and spending ample time in top position.

The second round had more action. Overeem landed a knee and a hard punch to start before setting up a guillotine attempt. He moved to try another knee bar, but Blaydes recovered and was able to eventually gain top position. Overeem appeared to have a limp stemming from his right ankle as the two squared off on their feet. Blaydes finished the round in top position on the mat, appearing to put Overeem down two rounds to none entering the third.

Blaydes came out in the third on fire and quickly put Overeem on his back before finishing the most impressive win of his young career in his hometown.
