White expecting Mayweather-McGregor to break PPV record

To hear Dana White tell it, "The Money Fight" is on pace to one-up "The Fight of the Century."

Speaking to the media on a Wednesday conference call ahead of Conor McGregor's blockbuster bout with Floyd Mayweather, the UFC president stated the matchup may surpass its projected 4.9 million pay-per-view buys, a figure exceeding the boxing record of 4.6 million set by Mayweather's 2015 tilt opposite Manny Pacquiao.

In fact, thanks to technological leaps in the distribution department, White claimed "everything is tracking right now to say that we’re going to kill this thing."

"There’s a lot of things boxing doesn’t do," White said, according to MMAjunkie's Steven Marrocco. "For instance, most of the time, you’re dealing with a network. Networks aren’t too excited to go OTT (over-the-top). It’s not a big thing they’re into. We have the capabilities, we do it all the time, and I believe we’re one of the best to do it. The numbers are tracking huge. We’re going to do the numbers that everybody has been talking we’re going to do."

White's optimism echoes that of Mayweather Promotions head Leonard Ellerbe, who recently claimed the bout has pulled $60 million in ticket sales thus far.

McGregor meets Mayweather in his professional boxing debut on Aug. 26 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
