Domenec Torrent, New York City FC agree to part ways

Domenec Torrent left New York City FC on Friday after one-and-a-half years in charge of the Bronx-based franchise.

The 57-year-old revealed on Oct. 23 that he was set to discuss his future with City Football Group executives in Manchester following NYCFC's playoff elimination to Toronto FC.

"While I've greatly enjoyed coaching NYCFC and the incredible life experience of living in New York, in mutual discussion with the club, I feel this is the right time for myself and my family to look for other opportunities as I develop my career as a head coach," Torrent said in a statement.

He added: "I'd like to thank NYCFC for giving me this opportunity. I've learned a lot during my time at the club after working with a fantastic sporting department and a great group of coaches."

Torrent left his role as No. 2 to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City to replace Patrick Vieira at the NYCFC helm in June 2018 and immediately guided the club to third in the Eastern Conference. His only full MLS campaign culminated with top billing in the East, securing NYCFC's first foray into the CONCACAF Champions League.

The Spaniard was followed out of NYCFC by assistant coaches Albert Puig and Jordi Gris, director of performance Francesc Cos, and head of performance Ismael Camenforte.

"The club has a fantastic group of talented and hard-working players and I have no doubt they will continue to be successful for many years to come," he continued. "To the fans, thank you for always supporting the team and making me feel so welcome in New York since Day 1. I wish everyone good luck and a lot of success."
