USWNT finishes group stage with perfect record after beating Sweden
Three up, three down for the World Cup favorite.
The United States closed out the group stage of this summer's Women's World Cup with a 2-0 win over Sweden on Thursday, securing top spot in Group F and setting up an intriguing clash with Spain in the round of 16.
Lindsey Horan's close-range tally in the third minute gave the Americans the lead in Le Havre, before an own goal from Swedish defender Jonna Andersson just after half-time cemented the result.
The latter, created by a sharp-angle shot from winger Tobin Heath, was the Americans' 18th goal of the group stage. It's the first time in World Cup history that a team has scored 18 times in the opening round.
Jill Ellis' side is yet to concede a goal in France and will take that unblemished record into Monday's last-16 encounter at the Stade Auguste-Delaune in Reims.
Sweden, meanwhile, will do battle against Canada on Monday in Paris.
