Luchi Gonzalez was appointed head coach of FC Dallas on Sunday after serving as the club's academy director for the past three years.

The former Colorado Rapids forward succeeds Oscar Pareja, who was officially unveiled as the new handler of Liga MX's Club Tijuana earlier this month.

Gonzalez's own unveiling is scheduled for Monday at 1 p.m. CT.

"Since joining FC Dallas, Luchi has proven himself to be a championship-caliber coach within our academy who has incredible knowledge of the game on every level," said franchise president Dan Hunt. "During our exhaustive head coaching search, it was clear that his philosophical approach to the game and love for this organization make him the right choice to guide the future of our first team."

Gonzalez started working with FC Dallas' academy in 2012, coinciding with an extremely successful era for the Under-17 and Under-19 teams. In addition to his recent role as academy director, he has overseen the Under-16 contingent for the last three years. He guided the youngsters to their second straight U.S. Soccer Development Academy National Championship in 2016.

FC Dallas have ushered 15 players coached by Gonzalez into the senior setup since he joined the organization, including Kellyn Acosta, Reggie Cannon, Jesse Gonzalez, and Chris Richards, the latter of whom is training with Bayern Munich during a six-month loan spell.

FC Dallas finished fourth in the Western Conference in the 2018 season but were eliminated by the Portland Timbers in the postseason's knockout round.
