Giants' Snell optimistic despite 11.57 ERA in 3 starts
San Francisco Giants left-hander Blake Snell is remaining positive despite another tough outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks, which pushed his ERA to 11.57 through three starts.
Snell allowed five runs on nine hits with three strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings to fall to 0-3 on the season.
"I'm getting better," Snell said, according to MLB.com's Maria Guardado. "I can say that. The slider was better than I thought it was. The changeup was pretty good today. Inconsistency in the speed, but the shape was good. The fastball was a little sporadic. But a lot of good results with it. I just threw it in bad counts. Overall, I was happy with the fastball. Curveball is definitely getting there. I didn't throw it a lot today. I should have probably thrown that more."
The Giants signed Snell to a two-year, $62-million contract with an opt-out after the first season on March 19. The two-time Cy Young winner didn't make any minor-league appearances before making his debut, opting for simulated games instead.
Snell managed only nine whiffs on 40 swings against the Diamondbacks. Despite the early struggles, the 31-year-old is confident he will find his form in short order.
"Just got to execute, have better sequences and (I'll) have way better results," he said.
