Miami Marlins right-hander Eury Pérez will start the season on the injured list due to elbow inflammation in his throwing arm, sources told Barry Jackson and Craig Mish of the Miami Herald.

Pérez will reportedly be out for multiple weeks but doesn't need surgery at this point.

The 20-year-old former top prospect hasn't pitched since March 13 after leaving his spring start due to nail discomfort. He felt elbow discomfort the following day and underwent medical examination.

Pérez posted a 3.15 ERA with 10.6 K/9 over 91 1/3 innings (19 starts) last season en route to finishing seventh in NL Rookie of the Year voting. The club limited his workload by sending him to the minors during the season despite contending for and ultimately securing a wild-card spot.

Miami's rotation will also be missing Braxton Garrett and Edward Cabrera to begin the 2024 campaign.
