Yankees don't cover internet charges for players on team plane
Baseball's most valuable franchise doesn't offer free Wi-Fi on the team plane.
The New York Yankees - worth around $6 billion - don't cover the $9 charge by Delta to use internet while flying, according to Stephanie Apstein of Sports Illustrated.
A yearly in-flight Wi-Fi plan for an MLB club costs approximately $40,000, a source told Apstein.
"I didn't pay for it, on principle," said former Yankees right-hander Jameson Taillon. "I will say, also, the Yankees fly on a pretty cool custom plane with poker tables and stuff. So, I would take that over free Wi-Fi, if I'm being honest."
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Brandon Marsh wasn't so forgiving when he was informed about the Yankees' internet policy.
"That sucks," Marsh said. "And they have to shave their face."
The only other team that makes players pay on a regular basis for internet on flights is the Cincinnati Reds, according to a survey conducted by Apstein.
