New York Mets left-hander Jose Quintana will undergo bone-graft surgery on his rib and is expected to be sidelined until at least July, general manager Billy Eppler said Tuesday, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

Eppler added that a lesion was discovered on the 34-year-old's rib but that a biopsy revealed it is benign.

Quintana, who joined the Mets on a two-year, $26-million contract during the offseason, was diagnosed with a stress fracture in one of his left ribs in early March.

Quintana's 2022 campaign was his best since his All-Star season in 2016. The 11-year veteran authored a 2.93 ERA with 1.21 WHIP and 137 strikeouts over 165 2/3 innings (32 starts) between the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals.
