Here are the 2023 fantasy second base rankings for standard 5x5 leagues.

Top 200 | C | 1B | 2B | 3B | SS | OF | SP | RP

Why Altuve's No. 1: Altuve has been near the top of fantasy ranks for second basemen for nearly a decade, and there's no point in changing course now. The Astros All-Star is good for a high batting average and on-base percentage, should give you between 20-to-30 homers, and rediscovered his base-stealing ability with 18 swipes last season. He's not a 200-hit guy anymore, but he suits up every day and usually does something productive for a fantasy manager's totals.

Dark-horse pick: There's no bigger dark-horse candidate among second basemen than Grissom, a 22-year-old infielder who the Braves are entrusting with an everyday job. Grissom posted a solid .291/.353/.440 slash line in 41 big-league games after beginning last season at High-A. He won't offer fantasy managers too many homers but should steal some bags and score runs alongside a decent batting average and on-base percentage.

Player worth reaching for: Marte is forecasting as an ADP 172, which seems strange for a player who has twice posted an OPS above .900. When he's right, the D-Backs second baseman brings 15 homers, 50-plus RBIs, and a handful of steals to the table while delivering a high batting average and on-base percentage. If he somehow discovers his 2019 form, fantasy managers will be laughing.
