The Texas Rangers and free-agent lefty Andrew Heaney agreed to a two-year deal that includes an opt-out after the first season, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

The two-year deal guarantees Heaney $25 million with incentives pushing the total possible value to $37 million, reports Alden Gonzalez of ESPN. It's unclear how much Heaney would be paid if he exercises his first-year opt-out.

The Toronto Blue Jays and San Francisco Giants were recently tied to the starting pitcher, who was reportedly mulling three-year offers from teams and angling for a fourth year to be added, according to Heyman.

Heaney reportedly had nine offers on the table when he accepted the Rangers' overture, according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.

The Boston Red Sox were reportedly offering a contract that would've guaranteed Heaney at least $30 million plus escalators, Cotillo added.

Heaney, 31, authored a 3.10 ERA and 3.75 FIP over 72 2/3 innings with the Los Angeles Dodgers last year.

A veteran of nine seasons, Heaney owns a career 4.56 ERA and 4.38 FIP in 707 innings, making 126 starts and 11 relief appearances.

In his sole year with the Dodgers, the veteran lefty ramped up his strikeout rate from a career 24.2% mark to 35.5% last season. He missed time due to left shoulder inflammation.

Heaney has run into injury trouble throughout his career, surpassing the 100-inning threshold three times and pitching more than 150 frames once (in 2018 as a member of the Los Angeles Angels).

This is the latest splash for the Rangers early this winter after luring superstar ace Jacob deGrom away from the New York Mets on a five-year, $185-million pact. Their rotation now projects to include the two new recruits, Martin Perez (who was retained on a one-year, $19.65-million qualifying offer), Jon Gray, and Jake Odorizzi, with Dane Dunning as depth. Prospects Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker could also have the opportunity to win jobs in spring.
