Juan Soto is set for a return to Washington to play the Nationals this weekend just 10 days after he was dealt to the San Diego Padres in a blockbuster move at the trade deadline.

"It's going to be pretty emotional," Soto said, according to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com. "I feel excited to go back and see those guys again. ... I've done everything for that team. Whatever I did, I was thinking of that team and the fans.

"If they appreciate it, I will always be glad. If they don't, there's nothing I can do about it."

Soto, the 2021 NL MVP runner-up, was an integral part of the 2019 World Series-winning Nationals, and he believes he knows what it will take for the Padres to win a title.

"The energy," the superstar outfielder said. "The good vibes and the energy that we had that year - that makes everybody great. That's all we need. ... We already have the talent."

The 23-year-old is slashing .357/.471/.607 with a homer and two doubles in eight games with San Diego.
