The Los Angeles Angels optioned outfielder Jo Adell to Triple-A on Tuesday, the team announced.

Adell was off to a rough start after making the Opening Day roster, slashing .231/.242/.431 with 24 strikeouts in 66 plate appearances.

The 23-year-old was also below average defensively, committing three errors and recording a team-worst minus-4 outs above average, according to Baseball Savant.

The 10th overall selection in the 2017 draft was expected to play an important role in the Angels' outfield after the club released Justin Upton in April.

Mike Trout, Taylor Ward, and Brandon Marsh should get the majority of the outfield playing time with Adell no longer in the mix.

The Angels recalled infielder Jose Rojas to take Adell's spot on the big-league roster.
