The San Francisco Giants are making a push to sign veteran right-hander Alex Cobb, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The sides are now engaged in serious contract talks, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Though he pitched just 93 1/3 innings in 2021 due to injuries, Cobb was a quietly solid pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels when healthy. His rate of 0.48 home runs allowed per nine innings was the third-lowest among starters with at least 90 innings last year, while his 2.92 FIP tied Gerrit Cole for eighth under the same minimum.

The 34-year-old would join a Giants rotation that could have a bit of a different look next year. Breakout star Logan Webb is back atop the rotation, but San Francisco is faced with losing All-Star Kevin Gausman to free agency. The team also declined to exercise Johnny Cueto's option.
