Orioles' Hyde 'embarrassed' after hot-mic incident with Blue Jays' Ray

Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde issued an apology to the Toronto Blue Jays after a hot mic picked up his verbal exchange with left-hander Robbie Ray during Friday's game.

"I just wanted to apologize to all the fans out there, the Blue Jays, Robbie Ray, and Charlie Montoyo," Hyde said following the Orioles' 6-3 victory, according to Sportsnet.

"I felt like our team was being accused of something that wasn't happening. We had a lively dugout tonight, but my language was no excuse for that and I wanted to apologize and recognize it was unprofessional on my part."

The Orioles manager barked at Ray during a second-inning at-bat against Richie Martin, causing Toronto's pitcher to stare into the dugout and wave Hyde onto the field.

Nothing ultimately transpired between the two beyond the exchange.

"I don't want to get into what made us react the way we did, but I could have reacted differently and I could have used different language and for the mic to pick that up, I'm embarrassed by that," Hyde added.

Ray, who struggled against the Orioles in one of his worst starts of the season, offered little about the incident following Toronto's loss.

"I'm not going to waste my time on someone who doesn't get into the box," the AL Cy Young contender said, according to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi. "I don't have the time of day."

Baltimore's victory put an end to Toronto's eight-game-winning streak. The two clubs are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday.
