The Toronto Blue Jays designated left-hander Brad Hand for assignment Tuesday, the team announced.

Hand owned a 7.27 ERA and 7.55 FIP in 11 appearances for the Blue Jays. The southpaw allowed 13 hits, three homers, and three walks over 8 2/3 innings.

"This is probably the toughest stretch I've ever been through in my career," he told The Toronto Star's Mike Wilner on Sunday.

Toronto acquired the veteran reliever from the Washington Nationals for catcher Riley Adams prior to the trade deadline. Adams is hitting .321/.442/.568 with 15 hits and seven RBIs since joining the Nationals.

The 31-year-old Hand owned a 5-5 record with a 3.59 ERA and 21 saves for the Nationals before he was traded.

Over his 11-year career, the Minneapolis native has amassed 671 strikeouts and 126 saves in 660 innings.

In other roster moves, the Blue Jays reinstated catcher Danny Jansen from the injured list and optioned right-hander Trent Thornton to Triple-A.
