With Alex Cora set to make his return to Houston on Monday after being suspended for the 2020 season, the Boston Red Sox manager isn't hiding from his role in the Astros' sign-stealing scandal.

"Obviously, it's not my proudest moment," Cora said of the scandal, according to WBZ's Dan Roche.

He added: "The story should be the Boston Red Sox against the Houston Astros, two of the best teams in the big leagues ... (but) I put myself in this situation. I handled the situation the way I'm going to handle it. I'm not afraid to talk about it. It's part of who I am. It's part of my present, it was part of the past, and it's going to be part of my future.

"I'm not proud of it, but at the same time, I've got a job to do, and my job is to manage the Boston Red Sox and hopefully get back to the World Series."

A Major League Baseball investigation revealed in January 2020 that Cora - a former Astros bench coach - and ex-Houston player Carlos Beltran played key roles in the team using electronic aids to illegally steal signs during its 2017 World Series run.

Cora, who became Boston's skipper after Houston's Fall Classic win and guided the Red Sox to the 2018 World Series title, mutually agreed to part ways with the team following the investigation.

The Red Sox rehired Cora as manager last November.
