Yankees place Stanton on IL with quad strain
The New York Yankees will be without one of their hottest hitters after the club announced outfielder Giancarlo Stanton was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left quad strain Monday.
The move is retroactive to May 14.
Stanton sat out the Yankees' weekend series against the Baltimore Orioles with quad tightness.
The 31-year-old has been terrific for the Yankees following a slow start, hitting .282/.347/.534 with nine home runs and 24 RBIs since April 23.
Stanton joins a growing list of Yankees position players already on the IL. New York was already without starters Aaron Hicks (wrist), Gleyber Torres (COVID-19), and Rougned Odor (knee).
Right-hander Albert Abreu will be recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take Stanton's spot on the active roster.
