The Philadelphia Phillies are in the market for a shortstop, and their interest in free agent Andrelton Simmons is picking up, sources told FanSided's Robert Murray.

Philadelphia is also continuing to monitor free-agent shortstops Freddy Galvis and Didi Gregorius while staying in touch with catcher J.T. Realmuto, Murray adds.

The Phillies are likely to sign one of Simmons, Galvis, or Gregorius, and their decision will be influenced by how much money they have to work with as they continue to negotiate with Realmuto, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.

Simmons, 31, spent the past five seasons with the Los Angeles Angels. The four-time Gold Glove winner is regarded for his defense. Since 2013, his 172 defensive runs saved lead baseball, according to FanGraphs.

The veteran shortstop appeared in 30 games for the Angels in 2020, hitting .297/.346/.356 before he opted out of the final five games of the season.

Simmons has also drawn interest from the Cincinnati Reds and Toronto Blue Jays during the offseason.
