Rays tab Glasnow for Game 1 of World Series, Snell gets Game 2

Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Tyler Glasnow will start Game 1 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team announced on Monday.

Glasnow has made four starts for the Rays during the 2020 postseason, authoring a 4.66 ERA with 25 strikeouts and eight walks in 19 1/3 innings.

He's only thrown four career innings against the Dodgers, all coming as a reliever in 2018 while with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Glasnow didn't fare well in those outings, allowing six earned runs.

The hard-throwing 27-year-old was 5-1 with a 4.08 ERA, 3.66 FIP, and 14.3 K/9 across 57 1/3 innings during the regular season.

Left-hander Blake Snell will start Game 2 of the World Series for the Rays, the club also announced Monday.

Snell, the 2018 American League Cy Young winner, has posted a 3.20 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over four postseason starts this year. He's also struck out 19 batters in 19 2/3 innings.

The Dodgers, who defeated the Atlanta Braves in the National League Championship Series that concluded on Sunday, named Clayton Kershaw their Game 1 starter opposite Glasnow. L.A. has yet to announce a Game 2 starter.

The World Series begins on Tuesday at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
