Shildt: Cardinals visited ER due to COVID-19, none were hospitalized

St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Shildt acknowledged Sunday that some COVID-19 positive members of the organization went to the emergency room due to symptoms, but that none were hospitalized.

"By and large, people are in a pretty good spot. There are people that have symptoms, and have had a few visits to the ER for some IVs and a little more clarity," Shildt told KMOX. "Nobody has had to stay. But there are people dealing with (it) - I mean, this is real. And people are experiencing a lot of the symptoms that we hear about, that are associated with this. A variety of them.

"Most of them are experiencing multiple ones. Seems like they rotate them. And again, nobody is close to any critical shape, but people are having to deal with some things that aren't comfortable at all. And hopefully we can get that behind them. They're getting great care."

Meanwhile, Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak said Sunday that the team is continuing to undergo testing while waiting for results from Saturday.

St. Louis hasn't played since July 29 due to a coronavirus outbreak within the team that is now up to at least 16 people between players and staff. The team was scheduled to play Monday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but that contest is now reportedly off.
