MLB records 38 positive tests for COVID-19
Major League Baseball and the MLBPA announced Friday that there were 38 positive tests for COVID-19 during the league's first set of mandatory examinations.
Thirty-one players and seven staff members tested positive, which equates to 1.2% of the total 3,185 samples taken.
Among MLB teams, 19 feature at least one player who tested positive during the first phase. The Oakland Athletics haven't completed their testing yet, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
The Texas Rangers are also still awaiting some test results, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.
The numbers are encouraging for MLB with its regular season scheduled to begin July 23. The positive rate of COVID-19 in the National Basketball Association was 7.1%, according to Sports Illustrated's Emma Baccellieri.
