Ryan Braun: Part of me not quite sure we'll actually play games

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun isn't completely convinced the current 60-game season plan will go off without a hitch.

"There's still a part of me that isn't quite sure we will actually play games," Braun told Arash Markazi of the Los Angeles Times. "I'm optimistic that we will play games, but obviously if we look at what's happening in the country, the COVID numbers are not good. There are a significant number of athletes who have tested positive, which is indicative of the overall numbers in our country right now."

Braun, 36, is entering the final guaranteed season of a five-year extension he signed with the Brewers worth $105 million. The deal contains a mutual option for 2021 valued at $15 million with a $4-million buyout.

"Christian (Yelich) and all those guys like to make fun of me because I'm the old guy in our group, so they think this is my last year," the six-time All-Star continued. "I do have three young children, so certainly it's a possibility. We'll see how this year goes and see where I'm at physically."

The 2011 NL MVP has declined in recent years, most recently making an All-Star roster back in 2015. Last year, Braun hit .285/.343/.505 with 22 homers and 11 steals over 144 games - the most he'd played since 2012.
