Report: MLB clubs given permission to engage in remote scouting

Major League Baseball teams were granted permission Friday to engage in remote scouting activities, according to MLB.com's Alexis Brudnicki.

Scouts can now engage in electronic communication with players and request that their assessments be completed from their locations, Brudnicki adds.

In-person activities are still not allowed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Multiple big-league clubs started sending scouts home last month because of concerns surrounding the coronavirus.

The league then banned contact between scouts and players to prevent any sort of competitive advantage.

MLB's draft, which was originally scheduled to take place in June, has since been pushed back and restructured.

It is expected to feature fewer rounds than the usual 40, which will limit the number of players drafted overall.
