After hitting some snags in negotiations over the weekend, the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, and Los Angeles Dodgers have made progress toward finally resolving their complicated three-team deal involving former AL MVP Mookie Betts, sources told La Velle E. Neal III of the Star-Tribune.

The Twins - who were supposed to send pitching prospect Brusdar Graterol to Boston before the Red Sox took issue with his medicals - returned to negotiations on Saturday and added a second minor-league player to the trade, according to Neal.

The new player's identity isn't known, but it's not one of the Twins' top 10 prospects. It's also unknown whether the club would be sending the player to L.A. or Boston.

Additionally, Minnesota could end up receiving "a little more" than just Dodgers right-hander Kenta Maeda as part of the revamped trade, according to Neal. It's unclear what that extra piece might be or where it would come from.

While some hurdles still remain, an announcement of a reworked trade could come as early as Sunday, according to Neal.

Even though the three teams have made progress toward ending the stalemate, it's likely the final version of the blockbuster trade will involve two separate deals, sources told Alex Speier of the Boston Globe. On Saturday, Boston was said to be focused on re-jigging the Betts portion of the trade with the Dodgers only.

The trade, as originally constructed, had the Red Sox sending Betts and David Price to the Dodgers, L.A. shipping Alex Verdugo to Boston and Maeda to Minnesota, and the Twins trading Graterol to the Red Sox. Boston held up the deal after taking issue with Graterol's medicals, but the youngster's agent refuted there were any issues with the 21-year-old's health.

Multiple teams around the league have already reached out to Boston to try and trade for Betts in the event that the Dodgers deal falls through, sources told Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

A separate multi-player trade between the Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels is also being held up as a result of the three-team deal's complications.
