Report: Reds, Dodgers, Indians discussed trade involving Lindor, Seager

Francisco Lindor and Corey Seager have been mentioned in trade rumors all winter long, and on Tuesday, details emerged regarding a blockbuster that ultimately fell through.

The Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Cleveland Indians discussed a three-team trade earlier this offseason that would have sent Lindor to the Dodgers, Seager to the Reds, and prospects to the Indians, reports The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

The deal failed to materialize, which then caused the Reds to engage with the Indians directly about a straight trade for Lindor, a source told Rosenthal.

Cincinnati was concerned about Lindor's potential $25-million salary in 2021, according to Rosenthal's source, which might have become the stopping point in getting a deal done.

The Reds also have Freddy Galvis at shortstop. Galvis is a solid defender who had a career year at the plate in 2019, hitting 23 home runs with 70 RBIs.

Lindor has been mentioned in trade rumors since November. Although the 26-year-old All-Star is one of baseball's best shortstops, Cleveland appears to be trying to sell high before he becomes a free agent following the 2021 season.

Meanwhile, Seager's name hasn't floated around as much as Lindor's after he recovered to post an .817 OPS with 44 doubles and 87 RBIs last season. He only appeared in 26 games in 2018 due to injury.
