Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo was lifted from Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates after slipping and twisting his ankle while attempting to field a bunt.

Shortly afterward, the team announced Rizzo had suffered a sprained right ankle. X-rays didn't reveal a fracture and the club has scheduled an MRI for Monday.

After medical staff helped Rizzo off the field, Ian Happ entered the game as a defensive replacement.

While the severity of the injury is not yet known, Rizzo is the latest Cubs player to become hobbled in their quest to crack the postseason. Closer Craig Kimbrel is currently on the injured list, while infielder Javier Baez is unlikely to return during the regular season after suffering a hairline fracture in his thumb.

Rizzo, 30, owns a .289/.404/.516 slash line with 26 homers and five stolen bases this season.

In the midst of an up-and-down season, the Cubs entered Sunday with an 80-68 record, occupying the second NL wild-card spot, and trailing the first-place St. Louis Cardinals by three games.
