Thor credits Ramos for calling 'really good game' in loss to Dodgers
Noah Syndergaard's uneven season - particularly with Wilson Ramos behind the plate - continued as he allowed four earned runs in five innings during Friday's loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Syndergaard wasn't hanging the blame on his batterymate.
"I thought Wilson called a really good game," Syndergaard said, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. "I felt like we were really meshing out there. I just wish I had that one pitch back."
That one pitch was a hanging curveball Dodgers infielder Gavin Lux barely hit out for a three-run homer.
Much has been made of Syndergaard's struggles with Ramos catching. He owns a 5.09 ERA while pitching to him and a 2.22 ERA when Tomas Nido or Rene Rivera are calling games.
It got to the point where Syndergaard apparently asked the team to remove Ramos as his catcher. He's since downplayed the conflict and said their working relationship has been improving.
"Really, it’s just me getting comfortable out there on the mound, which I think I did a pretty decent job at, and we were really meshing and flowing out there," Syndergaard said. "It was a step in the right direction, and that’s building a strong relationship. I look forward to more outings with him."
Despite the inroads, Friday's loss prompted a roasting on the back pages of various New York newspapers.
All told, Syndergaard is 10-8 with a 4.15 ERA, 3.52 FIP, 1.19 WHIP, and 180 strikeouts in 180 innings across 29 starts.
