The Cleveland Indians had no answer for Rafael Devers Tuesday, as the Boston Red Sox third baseman was a perfect six-for-six at the plate with four doubles, becoming the first player in baseball history to put up that stat line in a single game.

Devers' sixth hit and fourth double came in the 10th inning of a 7-6 Red Sox win.

He's the fifth Red Sox player to record six hits in a game, and first since Nomar Garciaparra did it in a 13-inning contest on June 21, 2003. The four doubles tied the single-game major-league record and made Devers the seventh Red Sox to do it.

At 22 years, 293 days old, he is also the youngest player to record a six-hit game since Hall of Famer Joe Morgan did it for the Houston Astros in 1965.

Despite reaching base six times, Devers came around to score only one of the seven Red Sox runs. It's the 15th time since 1908 that a player has gone 6-for-6 in a game while scoring just once, according to Baseball-Reference.

Devers' six-hit game is the third in the majors this year, joining Milwaukee's Ryan Braun - who did it in an 18-inning game - and the Reds' Phil Ervin, who had six hits in nine innings on July 13.

The Red Sox third baseman also picked up three RBIs Tuesday. He's hitting .325/.373/.574 this season to go along with 43 doubles, tying him with Nicholas Castellanos for the league lead.
