Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto is day-to-day after suffering a mild right ankle sprain on Sunday vs. the New York Mets, Sam Fortier of The Washington Post reports.

X-rays came back negative, Fortier adds.

Soto left the game after suffering the injury while rounding third base in the seventh inning. Unable to make it back to the bag safely, he was tagged for the final out of the frame.

Trainers tended to Soto before he walked off the field under his own power. Gerardo Parra took over in left field, while Victor Robles entered the game to cover center.

The 20-year-old finished as the runner-up for National League Rookie of the Year last season after hitting .292/.406/.517 with 22 home runs and five steals over 116 games.

Soto has picked up where he left off, posting nearly identical numbers with a .288/.402/.540 slash line, 24 homers, and 10 stolen bases this year.

He's missed a portion of the 2019 season already, getting placed on the injured list with back spasms.
