Nats' Turner becomes 26th MLB player to hit for multiple cycles

Washington Nationals shortstop Trea Turner has hit for the cycle for the second time in his career.

The 26-year-old completed the feat during Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies, lacing a double off right-hander Jairo Diaz in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Turner led off the contest with a home run in the bottom of the first, singled in the second, and tripled in the fifth before collecting the double.

Both of Turner's cycles have come against the Rockies. He first managed the achievement in Colorado on April 26, 2017, in a game that saw him collect seven RBIs.

The 2014 first-round pick is the 26th player in MLB history with multiple cycles, reports Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports. Only four major-leaguers have done it twice at a younger age than Turner, baseball statistician Ryan M. Spaeder notes.

"It's a hard game, and to get four hits in one game is hard to do," Turner said, according to Zuckerman. "To have four different ones is, I think, a little bit of luck. But also at the same time, a little humbling to be with those guys."

Turner now owns two of the four cycles in Nationals history - the other two belong to Brad Wilkerson and Cristian Guzman. Wilkerson also did it as a member of the Montreal Expos before the franchise relocated.

Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angels Angels, Jake Bauers of the Cleveland Indians, and Jorge Polanco of the Minnesota Twins are other players to complete a cycle this season.
