The Tampa Bay Rays may be looking to add some right-handed pop to their lineup for the second half of the season.

The Rays have expressed interest in acquiring Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Jesus Aguilar, sources told Mark Feinsand and Juan Toribio of MLB.com.

Both squads are in the thick of the postseason race, so any trade involving Aguilar would have to help the Brewers in 2019, Feinsand adds.

Aguilar had a dreadful start to the season, and was batting .206/.314/.320 with five home runs through the end of June.

However, the 29-year-old Aguilar has started to turn things around in July. Entering Tuesday, he's hitting .342 with three long balls in his last 16 games. His recent production is more in line with his breakout 2018 season, where he hit .274/.352/.539 with 35 home runs and 108 RBIs.

The Rays have primarily used Yandy Diaz at first base, but he's on the 10-day injured list with a foot injury. Additionally, their other options at first - Nate Lowe and Ji-Man Choi - are both left-handed.

This isn't the first time the Rays have pursued one of Milwaukee's first basemen. The Brewers dealt the aforementioned Choi to Tampa last June in exchange for Brad Miller and cash considerations.
